Been contacted by a third party collection company claiming to be collecting on behalf of Fannie Mae, is this right?

How do I find out on my own if there was a Deficiency Judgment placed on us? Is there a web site or can I call Fannie Mae personally to find out this information? Nation Star (the collection company) have called me several times. I have asked for related information re: our case and all they have done is provide us with a public website that does not even come close to providing us with the information we need to go foward. I am more than willing to look up the info on the internet. Just guide me to how I go about it please. by Tami59_597_172 from Murrieta, California. Oct 4th 2011 Reply

Deficiency Judgment laws vary from state to state... In Arizona, they cannot come after a home owner for a deficiency, however there still might be tax consequences... You should check with a professional for laws specific to your state. That being said, you should be able to pull a copy of your credit report and see it on there.. The credit report will also have the contact information of who ever is servicing the debt... you can also go to your local courthouse. If a judgement was issued, they would have a recorded document stating such... WilliamAcres.com

In California a lender cannot go after you for a BK, foreclosure or short sale mortgage loan deficiency. .... Happy funding, Rudi
