Buying a new home but worried since it has asbestos sidings

I am looking at a property with potential and was wondering if I can get a VA loan even if it has asbestos sidings? I have done an FHA loan with asbestos before but not a VA. The house is in great shape and the only problem is the sidings. Thoughts? by george porge from Dubuque, Iowa. Mar 15th 2023 Reply

Generally speaking, as long as it isn't broken, cracked, etc. it shouldn't be a problem. VA does not address asbestos related issues specifically, however, they do say deteriorating asbestos insulation WITHIN the confines of a home may be considered hazardous to one's health. Chapter 12- Minimum Property Requirements VA Pamphlet 26-7, Revised states: The property must be free of hazards which may adversely affect the health and safety of the occupants adversely affect the structural soundness of the dwelling and other improvements to the property, or impair the customary use and enjoyment of the property by the occupants." I lend for VA loans in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota. Cambria Mortgage, NMLS 274132. Find me at VAMortgageMN.com
