You are going to need a good explanation for 5 overdrafts in two months.
Overdafts in and of themselves will not get a VA loan denied. But be prepared to explain to the Underwriter why you have so many, and what actions you have taken to not have them continue. Lending in WI, MN, and SD - www.MortgagesUnlimited.biz
Most lenders have relaxed requirements in the past year or so from previous years since the near collapse of the real estate market so I agree with many of the answers, you have an excellent chance, providing your explanation is acceptable and it looks like it is not likely to turn into an habitual pattern. There are different strengths Underwriters look for in borrowers and with us the credit is #5, but still important.
Each and every loan is reviewed based upon the individual - credit history is part of that review. an overdraft payment is considered a late payment, but that does not exclude you from a loan. We, like all lenders will review this in conjunction with other factors in your application - and ask for an explanation. So yes, you can get a loan with the overdrafts - if other aspects of the loan can compensate for this - the only way you will get a answer to this is to apply for a preapproval. This can be a loan officer preapproval where I run it through automated underwriting, however automated underwriting won't see the overdrafts. With a more complete credit package, i can go directly to underwriting and get the response you need - if you would like to do this, please give me a call 707 328-2864 Esta Hoffman Mountain West Financial I can lend anywhere in California
As you see from other answers it will depend on the relative strength of your overall application - but make sure you don't have any additional now that you know it is a problem. I good mortgage lender will help you to work around that issue.
