The short answer is yes.. Typically, if you upgrade your home it will have a positive affect on your value.. but understand, you usually don't get a dollar for dollar improvement.. meaning if you spend $30K on a new kitchen, it wont necessary raise the value of your home $30K.. but you might see a $20K to $25K increase.. another example would be if your home has dark wood floors, but you like light wood floors, and you decide to spend $10K in replacing them, you might not see any value increase since you changed like for like materials..
