No... But YES.... VA doesn't do loans. Lenders do loans, and VA provides insurance to the lender. So while VA may say you can have a lower score, you actually have to get a lender to accept you score. Almost all lenders will want at least a 620, which is still considered a poor, and highly risky score. You are better off to stop thinking of a home today, work on credit repair, and try again when your score is well over 620. www.VA-IRRRL-Loan-MN.com

Acceptable minimum mid-FICO score is really dependent on the investor who will service your VA home loan. Having a higher mid-FICO score will make the credit approval an easier process with less hurdles to go through. If my team of Certified Military Housing Specialists can be of help, just ask.

James has it correct, 620 is pretty common as a minimum score for most lenders but there are some around that will allow as low as 600. A lower score can make approval more difficult and will make the rate higher.

It really depends on the lender. I lend down to a 530 on VA loans nationwide. Let's discuss your loan scenario in more detail. Contact me at 800 315 8803. My name is Jamie and I have been in the mortgage business since 1989. I am happy to answer your mortgage questions, 7 days a week and review your loan scenario. It depends on the lender. Most are going to be 620 to 640 for VA, however if the lender is Ginnie Mae direct they can go down to a 560 credit score on a single family home with zero down payment. However, if your score is in the 500 range the loan has a likely hood of being denied for other credit issues besides the score itself. It would be best to have a loan officer review your credit and let you know what needs to be done to improve your credit score. This will help you in the long run too. Best wishes, Sean

Hi Speedgirl39569. As everyone has already said, most lenders require a 620 or better credit score for VA. I'm one of those few lenders that can do VA down to a 600 score. I wanted to touch on what Sean said because too many people gloss over it. You could have the required credit score and still get denied due to your credit history. Please feel free to contact me for more information or help.
