i have only ever had one credit card and only for a year and a half. my credit score is 742, which i know is considered good, but will i be able to get a va mortgage with only the one line of credit? i have paid utilities if that counts for anything by kyleward7862197 from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Hi Kyleward, Thank you for your service. I don't share my peer's optimism that one account is good enough and here's why. While the VA guidelines do not require a minimum number of accounts to qualify a lot of lenders do. The general rule of thumb is 3 trade lines that have been open for at least 12 months. This is called a lender overlay. The way around this is to use alternative trade lines. These are things that do not normally show up on your credit report like your rent history, utilities or car insurance. Please feel free to contact me for more information or help. You should not have a problem qualifying for a VA loan with that credit score, assuming you meet all other qualification requirements.

Good Afternoon! Your credit score should be adequate enough to eliminate any requirement for a minimum number of tradelines, but you'll need to really apply for financing so that a Mortgage Credit Report is pulled to find out if your FICO Score is really as high as you noted as a Consumer Credit Score from sites like Credit Karma are not scored the same as FICO Scored Reports.
