How do I know if a lender is legit?

I am new in REI and rental properties have earned my interest. I need to borrow money to get started and I want to know what to look for when borrowing from hard money lenders. I had a conversation with one lender but their website is kinda shady. There is no information about their company and the photos are all stock photos.
