What determines whether or not my military service was adequate? by DSimmons from Fort Worth, Texas. Dec 27th 2012
If you are still active, have been in the military for at least 90 days during war time, or 181 days during peace time, or 6 years with reserves, or have a spouse who was KIA, or if you are no longer active military and have an honorable discharge, you would qualify.. You will need our DD-214 (discharge form).. And you need a VA Eligibility Certificate, which you can order online.. here's a PDF file that gives you instructions on how to do it......http://www.benefits.va.gov/homeloans/documents/docs/veteran_registration_coe.pdf I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. If you or someone you know is looking for financing options, feel free to contact me or pass along my information. 480-287-5714 WilliamAcres.com
Being eligible for a VA loan doesn't guarantee you'll secure financing, but the program continues to help hundreds of thousands of deserving borrowers each year. Check out this post about VA loan eligibility here: http://www.veteransunited.com/valoans/va-loan-basics-eligibility-requirements.
Usually the lender will request your Certificat of Eligibility for you but as back up in the file the DD214 is needed. As long as you have sufficient "entitlement" from the VA you are eligible for VA mortgage financing, but qualifying for the payment and meeting other criteria (set by the VA or the lender) is a separate process. I'd be happy to check on it for you. Click my name and it will give you all my contact info.
As mentioned in other answers you will need a VA Certificate of Eligibility and your DD214. I would suggest you contact a local mortgage professional. They can help you with your particular situation and help you get the Cert of Eligibility. Good luck. Linda
