Typically, the pre approval is only good for 90 days, but if you are 5 to 6 months away from buying, it still makes sense to apply now.. this way, if there are any credit issues, then they can be dealt with now, which could take 1 to 6 months to correct.. this is far better than a surprise later when you already picked out a house and find out you have to fix something on your credit to qualify..
