I am moving to Virginia and looking into buying a home. Should I work with a Virginia lender?

It would be nice to meet with my lender before making any final decisions, but I live in Oregon now. Not sure if I need an Oregon lender or one in Virginia? Thanks. by valeriemia from Eugene, Oregon. Jul 31st 2013 Reply

You will need a lender who is licensed in Virginia. You can use a big bank that is licensed throughout the U.S. or a mortgage broker.

Your far better off working with someone who is local to the area you're going to purchase in.. For this reason, the best advice I can give you is to contact a LOCAL mortgage broker and apply with them. Do not use the local "Big" bank, or one of those 50 states internet lenders or nationwide lenders...By applying with your LOCAL Broker, you have an advantage because he's familiar with local customs and works with numerous lenders, seeking out the best loan terms for your particular scenario. Because he has lower overhead, he can offer you lower rates and lower fees than most of the larger lenders.. I'm a Broker here in Scottsdale AZ and I only lend in Arizona. If you or someone you know is looking for financing options, feel free to contact me or pass along my information. 480-287-5714 WilliamAcres.com

I worked at Chase and did loans in all 50 states at that time. You can work with anyone who is Licensed to do loans in that state. It doesn't matter where they are at. I did loans right down the street for people from my office and they would still fax or email me what I needed. The only thing you need is someone good at calling you back or picking up the phone and letting you know whats going on also make sure that they will be letting the Real Estate agents on both sides of your purchase know loan updates. I am not licensed in that State but anyone who is will know what they are doing you just have to make sure your working with someone who is on it. I am in California myself but just make sure you find someone that is good on the phone and calling the agents for you as well. I have helped people to get the offer on the home they wanted excepted just with a simple phone call to the listing agent to let them know that I would give them updates and keep them posted not to many Mortgage People will do this simple step and it makes your offer stand out if a few people are making offers on the home.

You need a lender who is licensed in Virginia. Find a mortgage broker in Eugene, if you need to close your loan prior to your move.

You will need to work with a lender that is licensed in Virginia. You can either work with a big bank, with branches across the entire country or you can do some research online or get referred to a local lender in Virginia. Local lenders are often a better choice - you will get more personalized service and a local broker can shop for the best rate for you. A local lender can also do the majority of your transaction over the phone and via email, so you will not need to worry about being able to go into the office and meet with them face-to-face until you get there.
