I paid 2 payments at the beginning of my mortgage to always be a month in advance, BUT they reported a late payment on my credit!

Is that legal if I’m really ahead on payments? by JanetFee594 from Hollywood, Florida. Feb 24th 2017 Reply

Staying ahead of your mortgage payments is a great idea. Making double payments reduces your principal balance, but not making your regular monthly payment on time will result in your lender reporting a late payment. The best thing to do is make your payment on time every month. If you want to make extra payments, be sure to write a separate check for the extra amount and attach a note instructing the lender to apply the extra payment to your principal Balance.
