I'm 24 with no credit and want to buy a house. What sort of credit should I get?

I never had a credit card and my current car was gifted to me by my grandparents. What should I do to build credit and how long should I wait before applying for a mortgage? by eimear707 from Dutton, Montana. Mar 4th 2021 Reply

As a general rule you should have two or three open and active credit accounts. Start by getting a few revolving accounts like Mastercard or Visa. There are several large banks that will issue a revolving account accounts to young adults with limited or no existing credit. With each one you get. Use it at least once per statement cycle and keep the balance really small. DO NOT allow yourself to run up a big balance. You have gone this far without one, so use them as a tool to get you into your home. Within 3-6 months, you should have great scores, probably in the mid-to-high 700s, and this would be sufficient to allow you to qualify for a home loan with great pricing. ~ Bert Carpenter, The LoansA2z Team of NEXA Mortgage ~ NMLS 40586 ~ Licensed in AZ, CA, GA, IL, OR & WA...
