Work with a local mortgage broker. They can review your credit and help you find easy ways to get your scores up. The higher the scores the better your pricing will be. In today's underwriting, all lenders are going to use the lowest middle score of all borrowers, so if you are the veteran, if you add your husband, then the loan will be underwritten using his lower scores. Also, be wary of credit scores your get from those on-line credit generators. They all use the consumer score model, instead of the required Mortgage model. Most often, the consumer model posts a score anywhere from 10-45 points higher than what the mortgage model will report.
