Is it hard to get approved for down payment assistance?

I got pre approved for a home loan but I asked how I can afford the down payment. I said that I plan to apply for first time home buyers assistance. I currently have $14k in savings and I work as a nurse in a hometown hospital. My loan officer said I would have difficulty applying for down payment assistance, has anyone tried this program before? by josem169 from Michigan City, Indiana. Mar 4th 2022 Reply

Sorry, but if you don't have enough for down payment and closing costs, and the lender didn't speak about where your down payment is coming from, or if you actually qualify for assistance, you were NEVER correctly pre-approved. You don't say why they said you would have difficulty, but based on what I hear, I very strongly suggest you talk to another lender. Preferably a local mortgage broker in your area. I lend in MN, WI, IA, ND, SD. Find me at MNBestRates.com - Cambria Mortgage, NMLS 274132
