Lender is telling us to increase our credit scores to qualify

We are buying a nice studio apartment down town but encountered a hitch with our loan. Lender says that we need to increase our credit scores to qualify for a $250k loan. Our score is at 630 currently and I don't understand what the problem is. They also said that income is not an issue. What else do we need to address? by allyson12 from Phoenix, Arizona.
