Quicken loans is telling me that my points are 2.125 but I just read that they can only go up to 2 points. Are they scamming me?

Without knowing some specifics about your loan I cannot determine what you are talking about. I do virtually all of my clients' loans without any points. If Quicken is telling you that you will pay 2 points for your loan and the loan amount is, say, $300,000; the additional cost will be $6,000. Quite frankly, that seems quite ridiculous. Loan costs are very FICO score and loan-to-value ratio driven. If I know those 2 bits of info, I can probably make some sense of what you have been told by Quicken. Give me a call 16/7, or email me your phone number so I can call you, and I'll be happy to provide you with a thorough explanation. If you get a chance, read some of my blogposts on Lender411. They are quite informative. We work exclusively in CA and get loans done fast, typically in less than 30 days, at low interest rates and costs. I started doing mortgage loans in CA in 2006, and only do them there so I have an exceptional understanding of this extraordinary market. Representing more than 55 quality lenders that offer in excess of 1,000 loan programs, we definitely have something for everybody.

There is not enough information here to make any sort of actual determination for you. I suggest you contact a local mortgage broker in your area for a no cost second opinion. I talk to a LOT of people who have talked to that big internet lender first, and I have not had a single one ever go back to them after talking to me. My guess is most Loan Officers here will have a similar experience. That should tell you all you ever need about selecting them as your lender.
