Does anyone know if a reverse mortgage would be an option to stop foreclosure on a house that is behind on payments?just a short backround- I'm looking for options for my father to help save his house. He stopped working over a year ago and has some disabilities and can no longer work- and the house payments are behind about that much. The house is in his name and my mother also lives there but her name isn't on the house, but she did help make some of the payments- but now that my father isn't working it's just not doable for 1 person to make all the payments. If the house is foreclosed on they won't have any where to go, will lose everything and wind up in a shelter. He just turned 62, so I'm wondering if a reverse mortgage might be an option for my folks? My mother has also mentioned bankruptcy but from what I read that would just delay foreclosure not stop it? Are there any other options for them to actually save/stay in the home? They live in NJ. by brooke_687_900 from Lakewood, New Jersey. May 7th 2012
It certainly could be an option. But beware, there are alot of fees involved when doing a reverse mortgage. Try to find a reputable company that has good track record & experience doing these types of loans.
