What is the difference in a Real Estate Mortgage and a Collateral Mortgage? by Rkunzi from Coconut Creek, Florida. Apr 19th 2010
A real estate mortgage by definition is a note secured by residential real estate. When a lender requires additional security he may take his collateral security in the form of an additional mortgage either on realty or on personal property. This would be called a collateral mortgage.
Real Estate Mortgage is secured by real estate. Collateral Mortgage can be backed by anything the lender prescribes as valuable.
