Survey Results - Retiring Baby Boomers' Housing Preferences Posted by Carlo Sanchez
The results of a recent survey conducted by MetLife and the National Association of Home Builders are very interesting. The subjects interviewed were homeowners and renters age 55 and older.
The survey found that one third of respondents would choose a close-in suburb for their retirement home, while another third would choose an outlying suburb, 25% would choose a rural setting, and only 9% would prefer center-city living.
The vast majority (79%) said they would like to retire to a one-story home, while 15% preferred a two- story and 6% wanted a split level.
Contrary to the expectation that retirees wish to downsize, the majority of respondents said they would like their retirement home to be the same size as their current one.
