Credit Repair 101

Friday, April 18, 2014 - Article by: LouisJ - Louis Jeffries - Message

Many people have realized that it is impossible to qualify for a mortgage today without good credit. The credit crisis of the last few years has resulted in tighter lending policies so that it is tougher to purchase a home even with government loans and first time home buyer programs. When your credit has taken a dive you can legally restore your good credit profile and improve your credit score. The fact is that 80% of all Americans have wrong information on their credit report. Some information may be virtually correct but the profile is not reporting properly even that information must be removed.

Protect Your Credit Score

Their are a few things you can do to protect your good credit score. They are as follows:

  • Pay as agreed.
  • Check your credit report regularly. You may choose to enroll in a credit monitoring service.
  • Keep your credit card balances on your revolving accounts below 40% of the maximum credit limits.
  • Do not have too many credit cards. Three to Four active accounts are the maximum you should have.
  • Keep old credit cards open and active as long as possible.

Improve Your Credit Score

  • Pay as agreed
  • Check your credit report regularly. Contest the errors with the credit reporting repositories and or the creditor.
