There is an abundance of information available through what seems to an infinite amount of media outlets. It is more important now then ever before in the mortgage lending process to make sure you speak with a mortgage professional as early as possible once you've decided to buy a home or refinance one. The problem with all the media outlets is there is a lot of incorrect information, thus clouding the actual truths. The best advice I can give , is the following,
1. Make sure you deal with a mortgage professional as early in the process as possible, preferably one with a minimum of 3 years experience and is full time.
2. Make sure you are using a Realtor if you are purchasing, who has experience and who is full time. A professional Realtor will help you prepare for the process and negotiate on your behalf.
3. Make sure you deal with a Real Estate attorney. Unfortunately many people use who they know and trust, which is usually a positive thing. The problem is the laws and process's change what seems to be on a weekly basis, so using your divorce attorney for your real estate transaction may not be the best for you even though everyone's intentions are good.
3. Speak to more than just one professional from each category, remember your real estate transaction will require all professionals to work together on the common goal. Most mortgage professionals and Realtors don't get paid unless the transaction closes.
Go with your instincts and choose who you think will have your best interests at heart.
